On August 16, 2024, the “Space Bio Workshop” was held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Co-hosted by IDDK and Space Seed Holdings, the workshop aimed to broaden understanding and promote space fermentation technology.

The session began with an introduction to space fermentation technology, which is seen as crucial for sustainable food production in space. This was followed by a demonstration of IDDK’s semiconductor-based Micro Imaging Device (MID) and a workshop on automating space lab experiments and applying MID in fermentation. Participants engaged in hands-on MID operation, exploring experimental possibilities in space.
- Outcomes and Future Outlook
This event marked a significant step toward promoting space life sciences research in the Asia-Pacific region. IDDK aims to continue fostering the participation of young researchers and students, contributing to the advancement of space-based bio experiments.
